THE SACRAMENT OF
This sacrament is an ancient tradition originating from the "laying on of hands" found in the Acts of the Apostles. The Sacrament of Confirmation enables the faithful to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, strengthening them in their Christian life. The candidate also takes on the name of a Saint, in a similar way to a newly ordained Pope. This Saint then becomes a model or inspiration in faith for the candidate.

WHEN IS CONFIRMATION HELD?
Confirmation is held once a year for primary school students for children attending St Gregory's Primary school and for the children attending the state schools in Queanbeyan; and at Easter for adults participating in the RCIA program.
The Sacrament of Confirmation for 2021 will be celebrated On 8th and 9th September 2021. Parents have been notified by email. If you did not receive the necessary paperwork, please download the forms by clicking "REGISTRATION DOCUMENTION".
Children are prepared for their cofirmation through the school of religion, or through their RE curriculum at school. This involves lessons from St Gregory's teachers as well as Father Troy around the significance of the sacrament for their faith, and the practicalities of making the sacrament. Children making the sacrament also participate in a retreat experience conducted by older students from our local secondary Catholic schools.
To complete the registration of your child for the sacrament of confirmation, you are invited to make a sacramental offering, which covers many of the resources of preparing children for the sacrament. The suggested Sacramental offering is $60 for one child or $100 for two children. There are a number of ways you can make this payment.
1. Place money in an envelope and deliver to the parish office (along with your hard copy registration form) during opening hours
2. Use the parish online payment portal via the button below.
You will also be asked to attend a Commitment Mass. This is where you and your child and hopefully the Sponsor, will be presented for confirmation.
Children are presented to the parish priest and accompanying priests and in that moment commit to prepare wholeheartedly for confirmation. Te facilitation of this ceremony will be organised through the sacramental preparation.
Children making their confirmation are to choose a sponsor, or have one allocated to them. This person is an example of the Catholic faith and pledges to support the candidate in the development of their personal faith.
This person must also be confirmed in the Catholic Church and should be a committed and practising member of the Catholic Faith.
